How epoxy countertops work
An epoxy countertop is created by pouring layers of pigmented and clear resin over a prepared surface, then shaping the colors by hand while the resin is still liquid. When it cures, the result is a hard, glossy, seamless surface with no grout lines or seams. Because the pattern is created on site, we can imitate natural stone, create bold metallic designs or produce clean solid colors.
One of the biggest advantages is that we can often pour over existing laminate, tile or solid surface countertops, as long as they are structurally sound. That avoids tear-out, keeps cabinets intact and saves time and money.
Styles we create
- Classic white marble: soft gray veining on a white base, our most requested kitchen look.
- Black and gold: dramatic dark tops with metallic veining for vanities and bars.
- Granite-look: speckled, earthy patterns that hide crumbs and water spots.
- Metallic: shimmering copper, silver or blue for bars and entertainment spaces.
- Solid colors: practical tops for laundry rooms, workshops and utility spaces.
Installation steps
At the first visit we measure, inspect the existing tops and help you choose a style with physical samples. On installation day, we cover cabinets, floors, appliances and walls. We remove the sink and faucet if needed, sand and prime the existing surface and build up the edges. Then we pour the base color and decorative layers, shape the pattern and finish with a clear flood coat. Most tops can handle light use after about a day and reach full hardness within a week.
Pouring resin is messy, so careful masking is part of every job. The materials are low-odor, but we recommend good ventilation and keeping pets out of the room during the pour.
Strengths and limitations
Epoxy is hard, waterproof and easy to clean. It is not heatproof, so hot pans should always go on trivets. Knives can scratch it, so cutting boards are a must. Harsh solvents can dull the surface. With reasonable care, an epoxy countertop lasts for many years, and minor scratches can be buffed or the top recoated.
More than kitchens
We pour bathroom vanities, laundry folding counters, home bar tops, workshop benches, reception desks and bar tops for restaurants and tasting rooms. Commercial bar tops get an especially durable clear coat that resists alcohol and moderate heat. Customers who love their countertops often pair them with a metallic floor in a basement bar or game room.
Daily care
Wipe with warm water and mild soap. Use coasters, trivets and cutting boards. Avoid abrasive pads and strong chemicals. An occasional non-abrasive polish keeps the gloss looking fresh.
Matching your home
Older homes often look best with subtle, natural patterns, while modern spaces can handle bolder colors and veining. We bring samples to see against your cabinets, flooring and lighting. Edge profile and how the veining wraps over the front are small details we decide together before pouring.
Planning your project
Send photos and rough measurements, or schedule a visit to see samples in person. You will receive a written estimate before any work begins. If you are updating other surfaces too, ask about our garage floor coatings.
Is epoxy right for your kitchen?
Epoxy countertops are a great fit if you want a dramatic look on a moderate budget and do not mind using trivets and cutting boards. They are less ideal if you want a surface you can set hot pans on without thinking. Many homeowners choose epoxy for an island or bar and keep a more heat-tolerant material near the stove. We are happy to talk through those choices and help you design a kitchen that looks great and works the way you cook, without pushing a product that does not fit.
Most countertop projects are completed in two or three days, depending on the number of pieces and the style. We keep your kitchen as usable as possible during the work and leave it clean when we finish. Large islands with waterfall edges may take one extra day for the vertical pours to cure properly. We will tell you up front how long each area will be off limits.
